150 Years of NIOZ - Photo exhibition
Since 1876, we have explored the complex and dynamic world of the sea and all that lives within it, from delta to deep sea and from the poles to the tropics. With a selection of photos we will take you through the rich history of our institute. This exhibition will be shown on several of our events this year, and online with some additional information about the photos.

Open Days NIOZ – 3 & 10 October 2026
In October 2026, NIOZ will open its doors to the public during two Open Days, offering a behind-the-scenes look at marine research. On Saturday 3 October we will have our Open Day at NIOZ Texel, during the 'Weekend van de Wetenschap'. On Saturday 10 October, we will open our doors in Yerseke for an Open Day. During these days, NIOZ researchers will share their work, passion, and the world of marine research with visitors of all ages.
More details will follow closer to the dates.
Colloquium Series – Special Edition
As part of the jubilee year, NIOZ will host a Colloquium Series – Special Edition, consisting of five colloquia featuring internationally renowned speakers. Each colloquium will be combined with facility tours and opportunities for engagement with students and with scientific, technical, and supporting staff. The series is open to anyone interested, both within and outside NIOZ, and aims to celebrate science and highlight scientific excellence.
These events will be held at NIOZ locations in Texel and Yerseke, with dates to be determined.
A story of 150 years
Since 1876, we have explored the complex and dynamic world of the sea and all that lives within it, from delta to deep sea and from the poles to the tropics. Through our research, we expand knowledge of our unique blue planet. Only by understanding the sea can we protect it and keep it healthy - and in doing so, safeguard our own future. As the national oceanographic institute, with locations on the Wadden Sea and North Sea (Texel) and in the Southwestern Delta (Yerseke), we empower researchers from Dutch universities and institutes.
