Working with nature

We protect ourselves from the sea in all kinds of ways: with dunes, dykes and flood defences. But how effective are these when sea levels rise? NIOZ researchers are looking at how we can work with nature to keep our coasts safe while maintaining healthy ecosystems. We are also looking at how we can use natural processes to restore marine ecosystems, for example with artificial reefs.
